Timothy J. Colton is Morris and Anna Feldberg Professor of Government at Harvard University. He has been the Chair of its Department of Government since 2010. For a number of years he was the director of the Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies. He is a lifetime elected Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Professor Colton's current research is on political leadership, Russia's relations with its neighbors, and political parties and electoral development in Russia and Ukraine. He is American co-chairman of the Working Group on the Future of US-Russia Relations.

His most recent publications include "Paradoxes of Putinism" in Daedalus 146:02 (Spring 2017): Russia beyond Putinism; Russia: What Everyone Needs to Know (Oxford University Press, 2016); Everyone Loses: The Ukraine Crisis and the Ruinous Contest for Post-Soviet Eurasia (edited with Samuel Charap) (Routledge, 2016) and Yeltsin: A Life (Basic Books, 2008).

His book Moscow: Governing the Socialist Metropolis (Belknap Press, 1995) won the prize for best scholarly book in government and political science, Association of American Publishers.
