Our Unit
UBRJ is a research unit composed of Hokkaido University's Slavic-Eurasian Research Center (the core organization) and the university's humanities/social science graduate schools, the Center for Ainu and Indigenous Studies and the Hokkaido University Museum. Its main objectives are to promote border studies throughout Japan and abroad; to strengthen collaboration with domestic and international research centers; and to foster the development of young researchers in order to advance research on border issues. The activities listed below are engaged in achieving these objectives.
- Research and investigation of border issues
- Publication of academic journals
- Organization of intensive summer courses, symposiums and museum exhibitions in collaboration with the Slavic-Eurasian Research Center and the Japan International Border Studies Network (JIBSN)
- Collaboration with domestic and international research institutions and networks
Unit Organization
The unit consists of teaching staff from the Slavic-Eurasian Research Center and collaborative researchers, all of whom are appointed by the Center's Director.
